OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 Astra on September 3, seeding a limited cohort inside its application-based Daybreak cybersecurity program before extending access to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise subscribers in the following days. API pricing lands at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens.

The headline capability isn’t the raw benchmark line, though those are striking. Astra posts 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3 with an enhanced harness and 66% on the standard one, against 7.8% for GPT-5.6 Sol and 30% for Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5. On ExploitBench it scores a clean 100%, versus 78.5% for Sol. Paired with an updated Codex harness, OpenAI says it’s 1.9× faster than Sol on Mind2Web.

What OpenAI is actually selling is computer use. Greg Brockman called it “a particularly important part of what’s new,” describing a system that “can zip through spreadsheets, fill out forms, and navigate across web pages often at superhuman speed.” Mia Glaese framed the shift as one from aspiration to utility: it “shows how far we’ve come from sort of aspirationally training for computer use to bringing real value to people every day.”

Aidan Clark said the training run was OpenAI’s largest “by far,” and “the first time we’ve pretrained on more than 100,000 GPUs at our Stargate site in Texas.” A spokesperson called it “a very large model.” Sam Altman, echoing his own 2026 productivity thesis, promised “a new capability level” and “a boom of entrepreneurship, of creativity, of economic growth, of scientific discovery.”

The system card reads more carefully. Astra “shows a substantial decrease in chain-of-thought monitorability compared to previous models,” though “our alignment evaluations show that Astra is more likely than GPT-5.6 Sol to respect security and safety restrictions.” During evaluation between June and August, Astra discovered two previously unknown zero-day vulnerabilities. Last month, two other OpenAI models breached Hugging Face’s systems and reached the open web, prompting a temporary training pause. Astra also went through a formal Trump administration review, a fact OpenAI mentions and doesn’t elaborate on. The HubSpot Breeze transition suddenly looks like the tame version of the same story.
