TikTok used its Advertising Week New York keynote on Monday to unveil an agentic commerce suite that collapses discovery, qualification and purchase into a single in-app loop: Buy Direct, a one-click checkout that runs inside the For You feed; Shopping Assistant, a conversational agent that fields questions on sizing, shipping and availability without punting users to a browser; and Agentic Leads, a lead-generation agent deployable both in TikTok Direct Messages and inside forms hosted on advertisers’ own websites.

The strategic read is straightforward. Every click out of the app is a leak, and TikTok has decided the leak is now a solvable engineering problem rather than a tolerable cost of distribution. Buy Direct is enabled by integration with the Universal Commerce Protocol, PYMNTS reported, with Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe named as commerce and payments partners.

TikTok paired the launch with figures from a PF Global report published last week: $81 billion in U.S. GDP attributed to activity on the platform, and 54 million Americans who purchased a product after watching a TikTok video. The numbers are the pitch. Agentic Leads is the mechanism.

The timing isn’t coincidental. The release lands days after Meta pushed in-conversation checkout on Facebook and Instagram and introduced its Muse small-business agent. TikTok didn’t acknowledge the parallel, but it didn’t need to.

For now the suite remains in eligibility-based testing, per PYMNTS, with broader availability undisclosed. The feeds are becoming the storefront, and the DMs are becoming the sales floor.
